Lovely: Dr. Derek Lovely, professor of microbiology, University of Massachusetts at Amhurst Chrisey: Dr. Linda Chrisey, program officer, Naval Biosciences and Biocentric Technology Program, Office of Naval Research Tender: Dr. Leonard Tender, research chemist, Center for Biomolecular Science & Engineering, Naval Research Laboratory Chadwick: Bart Chadwick, oceanographer, Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center (Pacific (SPAWAR) Narrator: An Office of Naval Research team has developed a device that converts chemical energy to electrical energy by the catalytic reaction of microorganisms, and it all begins with mud. It is known as the microbial fuel cell, or MFC, with electricity generated by a microbe called geobacter, discovered by Dr. Derek Lovely of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in the mud of the Potomac River. Lovely: This basic research has expanded into the applied realm. We've worked with a number of companies in the bioremediation field implementing our strategies to speed up the cleanup of groundwater. As the geobacter research has also started to have implications for bioenergy, this is absolutely a green power. It turns out to be a natural process, carried out by a naturally occurring organism found in soils and sediments. What we're talking about is recycling wastes that have a substantial energy content, but are very difficult to convert to energy that we can use with current methods. Chrisey: If you've ever gone to the beach and you dig down in ...
This film by the PanEco foundation demonstrates how indigenous people are affected by the destruction of peat swamp forests by palm oil companies. Palm oil cultivation is being driven by demand for renewable energy to mitigate climate change. The film illustrates the environmental and societal threats that local communities face, through the story of Saoni, a fisherman in the endagered swamps of Tripa in Aceh.

Lou Dobbs fills Bill O'Reilly in on yet another Obama "Green" scam. I don't know how many more of these need to pop up before the jack holes in congress start clamping down.

A documentary about the successful trial of cassava biofuel. The initiative brings together CIAT's high-starch cassava varieties with Clayuca's small-scale processing plant to produce eco-efficient fuel for a variety of purposes.
In this video we are going to look at how to store gasoline. This will help you to avoid shortages as some recently have experienced in the Southeast. In a true SHTF situation, you are going to need gasoline for many things including: vehicles (if still working), chainsaws, tillers, lawnmowers (yep your still going to have to mow every so often to keep down fire hazards and to cut down on possible concealed entry corridors), generators, water pumps, log splitters, etc. Left by itself, gasoline typically has problems in a fairly short period of time. It must be properly treated and put in good quality storage containers. Do NOT trust your gas to the cheapie red plastic cans from walmart. I personally would be leery of using any plastic containers to store gas LONG TERM, but that's just me. Sit down and think about how much gas you use in a year around your homestead or survival retreat. Examples- 5 gallons for chainsaws and log splitter, 5 gallons for lawnmower, 5 gallons for garden tiller, 5 gallons for misc. hauling tasks around the homestead, etc. Treated fuel would be a good barter item also. tags- survivalist, survival, fuel shortage, storage, gas, diesel, homestead, peak oil, self reliance, preparedness, oil crisis, oil drum, fuel tank, gasoline, ethanol, bio fuel diesel, rationing, food storage, logistics, survival retreat, survival report, PRI fuel preservative, 911, Alex Jones, whatever else brings people in ![]()
